I’ve had time to calm down now. The reason why I was so upset with this RU 100 course was that I felt that the racial segregation that occurred was wrong, especially given the title of the course.

In hindsight, maybe it’s just me who feels this way, and it is ok, or at least accepted over here, to do something like that.
I stayed in the class long enough to realize that although the professor’s written English instructions were confusing, his spoken English was very good and that he could have given his lecture in English had he so wished.
It’s not a big deal, it’s not for any credits, and it’s not like I had to pay for this bullshit course. However, I just don’t think it’s right that the Thais have to attend class when we don’t!
It’s also not fair that they have to endure three workshops on morality and sit a test when all we have to do is decipher the opaque instructions in our reading assignments booklet and write about it.
It’s also not a big deal, but it pissed me off that the prof wanted the work submitted the following day. I have a job, a wife, friends, and a life. Sure, I could type up any old shit and pass it in, but why should I have to do this? The deadline set was impossible, and unrealistic to boot. Whilst I’m at it I am pretty sure that whilst the prof said he wanted them submitted anytime Friday afternoon, he most probably didn’t collect them at the end his working day. I’m speculating, but I reckon that the assignments sat in the office over the weekend.
For the above reasons, I have yet to hand my assignment in. Will do so soon, and if unlucky will just have to let it collect dust until next year.
Just one more thing that pissed me off. The pro included his own work in the reading assignments. Having struggled to interpret the meaning of most of it due to the English, I came to the conclusion that it was inaccurate, and definitely not moral. To say that “It (Buddhism) takes parts in every occation (sic) of Thai life from birth to death” must be extremely offensive to the 5ish% who are not Buddhist.
I’ll leave this with my favourite quote from Buddhism and Education:
“Buddhism takes a great deal of believing in Thai life”
