There is a new forum on this site that is a lot sexier than the old one. As a result, the old one will be removed somet ime in the near future. If you have posted on the old forum and want to transfer to the new one, please do so. To get to the new forum, go to your profile and then to the IISommunity button.

Time to grow a backbone

November 09, 2009 Blog by Tom

Was quite pissed off recently, and to tell you the truth, I was pissed off at what I referred to as “spineless characters that walk the corridors of the IIS.” You may be thinking ‘Is he talking about me?’  Can’t answer that question for you, but by the end of this blog you will be able to make up your own conclusion.

APA Style

Throughout my studies at the IIS I have had to write more than my fair share of reports, essays, executive summaries, and research papers. This in itself is a challenging prospect and gathering credible research on each topic was my first hurdle.

Surely I just go and type in what I’m after in Google or Wikipedia, and hey presto! I have what I need.

ESL no!

November 09, 2009 Blog by Tom

An Institute of International Studies is a true melting pot of people of races and places and all that other good stuff, and it is quite common to hear a variety of languages as you mill around the corridor, have a quick fag up on the roof, or grab some grub under the trees. Here at the IIS the medium of choice is English. Now this can be American English, British English, Australian English, Afro-English, or Thinglish. Quite frankly, I don’t give a flying duck. What does cook my goose, however, is the English used to build a course around, which in turn the whole degree is based upon.

New Classrooms

November 09, 2009 Blog by Tom

The IIS has some new classrooms, as of November 2009. These rooms are in the NPB building on the 3 and 4 floor. To find out where this is in relation to the IIS building, see the following map:

RU 100

I’ve had time to calm down now. The reason why I was so upset with this RU 100 course was that I felt that the racial segregation that occurred was wrong, especially given the title of the course.
